Unfortunately the hole plummets this coins value and makes it a details designation. The average grade is around a VF-20 and would retail about 150.00, and is now only about a 10 dollar coin (if this were my coin) only because of the CC mintmark. Cool coin, bad hole .

I can see someone paying $25 for this. You're going to need a lot of time to sell it because there aren't many holed coin collectors out there.

Great details, and the hole is in the right spot without eliminating the mintmark.

It's "worth" at this point is measured by you. There's no real money here but you've got a great coin to admire and use as a gauge for other F-15 to VF20 LSQs and that's got value IMO.

Ouch! So sad to see this. Personally I always wanted to try a repair on a damaged coin like this just to see how close I could get to making it look good. But...I would not start on a CC!

Value? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that hole is going to knock it down to close to melt most likely.

It's funny, I believe one of the most common "holed" classic coins I've seen are 1876s (I have one, too).

I think it most likely has to do with that year being the country's centennial.

I'd put it on my key ring as a fob along with the bent and holed Queen Anne guinea. Just the right size for a fob. Who cares about what it does to the coin which is already damaged beyond repair.

I use a small split ring through the coin hole, then attach to the key ring with the split ring. It's an inexpensive way to turn a holed coin into a fob, a charm on a gypsy bracelet, or a pendant on a necklace.

California fractional gold coins are often found holed. I heard that this was done to carry them on a thread or a safety pin. They're small and easy to lose.

Looks fine to me...some of these "classic" coins can be tough or too pricey. THIS one is VERY aesthetically pleasing with the hole perfectly centered and clean drilled-out. In addition to circulated coins showing their intended usage wear, I'm kinda fascinated behind the added history as to WHY people holed, counterstamped coins in the first place...bit of a history buff.I just received this 1801 holed draped Bust silver dollar this week.

it's a very nice coin. The small value of the coin would lead me to keep it and use it for something like on a key chain.

You make some good points. You would prefer not to have the hole, but you have a hard to find coin that you can still enjoy for its design.

Also, as PDKHort said, your coin has another story to tell about the how and why of the hole. It's a nice coin, enjoy!
