@hobart, die cracks tend to form at areas of higher stress, such as sharp corners:

The tops of the letters being extra thin is another indication of a tired die.

@Spence GREAT example of the die cracks for these Lincolns.

Also noted a grease error at the top of the obverse around the 'STATES' area.
