These .. coins? .. have spent the last 4 months in mineral oil, then distilled water, then under a brass brush, then in nic-a-lene (hey, I'm desperate.. and the fizzing action was quite fun) and now that I've managed to get to where I can see an edge of a coin or more (YAY and HOLY MOLY I never thought they'd see the light of day) I reeeeally need to know how to clean them the rest of the way. We're down to a soft toothbrush that isn't doing anything

This stuff covering them is HARD and actually looks like it has barnacles in it.. anybody have any ideas?

Coins 1 & 2:

Ok /rant off... I feel better for sharing Thanks for any suggestions!

Well it looks like you pretty much covered it all, except and I hesitate even mentioning it. Zapping then. There is a group on the web called coin zappers, you can get info from there web site on how to do it. Even if you zap them I don't think you are going to get any detail from these coins.

The pictures don't show it well, but the edges of the coins so far do show a bit of nice lettering, so I'm hoping the rest of the details show up as well. Kurt, I'd bet on the seawater, because those things look exactly like barnacles on the bottom of a boat I should see what sailors use to remove those!

Zapping looks interesting. I'll check that out and let ya know if I try it.. thanks for the idea!

Do a web search for cleaning encrusted coins with hydrogen peroxide. It's fairly simple & effective, but it is a chemical reaction so be careful.

I had pulled my comment as it seemed rather silly, but yeah--the bluish coloration of the verdigris reminds me of what I see on brass fittings on boats I've owned. The saltwater variety of bronze corrosion (copper chloride) can be a little more aggressive and eats into bronze more than simple verdigris. I've never had the luck to find shipwreck coins, but yours do have that look...good luck!
