Found these today. The 1998 looks dark gray and just weird. The 2001 Rhode Island has a big groove in it with the metal stuck on top on the coin.

Top coin: Environmental toning. probably spent some time outside.
Second coin: Damaged after it left the mint.

@kj, both are interesting coins, but both are damaged as these changes happened after the coins left the mint. The first has had some sort of environmental or chemical exposure and someone gouged that second one pretty good. I like how it is deep enough to see traces of the copper core.
