Yes,great Coin, shame its Denver and not the lower mintage Melbourne.
Probably not worth Slabbing as there are plenty around in similar condition, they were hoarded during the War with the threat of Jap. Invasion, paper money was quickly offloaded.

There is 3 different 1942 threepences.
1942 plain
1942 S
1942 D
The one you have is a 1942 D which is the more common one.
The rare 1942 coin is the plain one with no mintmark

My main concern is that blob on the reverse, under LIA. Can't tell if it's just a carbon spot, or more serious corrosion.

Looks like a blob, yes 1942D is a common coin, minted in the USA at Denver for Australia in WW2.

They minted some Australian coins in 1942, 43 and 44.

Denver minted 3d and 6d only
The coins from 3d to Florin were minted in San Francisco
Unmarked coins were minted in Melbourne, Australia.

The other difference is the American coins were 90% silver, Australian minted ones were 92.5%. The Americans also minted Fijian coins in 1942 and 1943.

Your coin is VF, not AU and thus worth a few dollars. The high silver content meant these wore quickly and lustre lasted down into Fine in some cases.
