Thought this was cool.
How the zinc looks like it melted and ran. Also that the field and rim wasn't affected as much. The rim somewhat but barely marked.
Check out the area the arrow is pointing.

Any ideas or opinions?

Looks like damage to me. Note the scratches continue to the rim on the higher design areas. The die scratches on that area are at a different angle.

I like it. There's a slight toning which I like as well.

Since zinc melts at or around 400 and copper around 1000 degrees, someone may have heated it up as an experiment. Saw a scratch and were curious what the "silver" metal was. Just speculation on my part.

It does look like a lava flow onto the field.

It does have the look of something real hot affecting it.

I just thought it looked different kind of damage. Like the zinc was flowing.
And wondered how it happened.
How those big gashes were on the bust and not so on top of the rim.
Heat is a thought but the rest of the coin doesn't look like it's been heated.

It sorta reminds me of what Mike Diamond said back on 3/29/21 & 3/31 pre-strike planchet damage. I know this can't be that but it reminded me of it.
Here's one of those pictures from 3/31/21
