I'll go with an AU-58 and an old dip. It could be low MS.

With this pic it is difficult to assess the originality of the surfaces, though detail (especially on the reverse) is very clearly shown. A good photographic effort, and you'll get better.

All Mercury dimes are pretty and this one is only lightly circulated. Good strike. But honestly speaking the coin isn't an objectively desirable example. Even if the gash on the cheek isn't serious enough to detail it, it's a bad distraction. The date is hugely common.

Ignoring the gash and assuming the surfaces are original, I'd call it AU55. There's a tiny bit of wear on the high spots that would bring this coin into the AU range. It doesn't have full split bands.

Given the photos posted, I'm thinking high AU. Looks like Die Deterioration on the reverse (at a minimum).

Definitely later die state. Agree with mid to high AU, but overdipped.

Late die state, AU-58 or low MS, killer cut on chin.

after looking at the photos... My phone camera just isn't cutting it. Here's the obverse from a higher quality camera. not sure if it will matter much.

After reading the comments about this coin possibly being dipped and to my eyes, the luster looked absolutely beautiful and as it should I took a closer look... Follow the crack down after the B. There's also another one after 1944. Amazing what adequate lighting reveals!

Is this last photo through a 2x2? The date and back of hairline appear to be less sharp than previous images. I have to agree with AU Details coin.

the grade on this coin really doesn't matter a whole lot as its such a common date. even if it graded straight, which is doubtful, it could grade anywhere between XF40 and AU58 and still be a $4 retail coin.
