Someone put this coin into my churches collection plate some years ago and I have been tasked with selling it. However, I don't know how to describe the condition of this coin or what terminology to use to identify it. Is "Canadian $5 gold coin 1/10 oz 1997" sufficient? Is there a special term for the fact it is sealed in plastic? Thank you in advance. I've enclosed pictures of the front and back.

If you live in a city with a bullion dealer or coin shop, the price is easily obtainable since it's a bullion coin.
Right now APMEX is selling them for about $254 USD, so any dealer would be offering you 6-10% less, depending on what they need for their margin.

I notice it has a privy mark, so that may attract a premium to the bullion value.

Gold Maple Leaf (GML). .9999 gold. Can't see the privy mark clearly in the pictures. If it shows a Dad, child & Mom holding hands then it's the 1997 Family privy mark, Specimen finish, with a mintage of 100,730. Due to the relatively high mintage there's not much of a premium for it over the regular, bullion finish GML.

The coin would best be described as "1997 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, 1/10 ounce, Family Privy".

The last one to sell on ebay, sold for $216.50 USD - approximately $277 CAD - on November 17, 2021. Other sellers are trying to get more.
