Good evening everyone,

Just checking to see what you all would grade this penny. I think PF68 but that's based on some little scratches I think I see in places on it. I'm still experimenting with the lighting for taking pics of proof coins so apologies if the lighting isn't great.

looks like it has a clear coat of something on it? also the lighting is wrong, need better lighting to see any fine scratches, if it was PR65 = $2.50, so if looking for PR68...well its hard to get that high of a grade, I think sending for grading would be a lot more than its worth, need new pictures and maybe it'll score high, together we can grade it, you put in flip...

Yes, photographing proofs can be a major pain. Given the images posted it's difficult to get a sense for what may be going on in the fields. It's likely that this example falls in the PF67-68 range.

Thanks for your patience everyone, getting good overall shots of these proof coins is heck lol but I will keep trying til I get it right!

The coin is still in original mint packaging (or was, I had to crack the case open to get photos) so I cant imagine there is any clear coat on it. It is probably just my sub par camera skills.

Proofs impossible to grade accurately from pictures.

I see some haze, spotting and field disturbances.

there is some spotting/haze as badthad has pointed out around the date area. this would preclude it from PF68 and probably closer to PF65/66. the difference in value is minimal so it really doesn't matter a whole lot which one.

@panzaldi I appreciate the perspective! This coin is not at all about value for me (as most of them aren't up to this point), I am far more interested in honing my collecting/grading skills at this time. So when I do eventually find something I will be prepared for it lol
