Hi all, I purchased a box of pennies from a man who was trying to get rid of his dads old collection. He had them all nicely preserved in plastic tubes. I am pretty sure this is a 1955 DDO-002 error. I am super new to coins, and I'm not really sure if I am saying the error name right. If this is the error than this collection has more than one in there and they are like brand new. But I wanted to see your thoughts. If this is, do you think it would be worth getting graded?

Full (and sharp) photos of the coin's obverse and reverse would be really welcome. Given what's posted, I'm thinking Die Deterioration is in-play. Full obverse photo might confirm or disprove that assessment. Thanks.

Extreme die wear, flattened with Machine Doubling on the motto area. On the date it is just the extreme die wear that makes it look like a DDD. DDD is more seen on the single squeeze dies. Both types are extreme die wear. The difference is that the devices are not affected on the DDD. They fields show the alteration, but the devices are left alone. Until the second event happens with DDD, the Ridge Ring is noticed on the zinc cents. But on the older dies the difference is that the outside edges of the devices. more towards the closest rim. Thus on the DDD, you don't get the march to the rim like we see on the older dies:

So prefer the correct terms as they are different. I don't remember seeing a single squeeze die with the devices moving towards the rims. Also the profiles height are different. The single squeeze dies have a lower profile. The multi hub dies have a higher profile. So best to call them extreme die wear, and DDD on the single squeeze dies. This coins Machine Doubling does make it look like the DDD, but it is not.

Appears to be a cracked skull (die cracks), and a die chip on the left wheat stalk?

Awesome!! Ijn1944 #9786;#65039; Thank you for that info, I will have to research more on that, as well as more, on the differences in double dies and Die Deterioration etc, like the other suggestions said.

I am not too familiar with all the errors yet. I just know that I am hooked with the hunt of finding them lol
