The bottom of the '6' is a break off of the working hub. This hub was used on many dies. some are varieties, not not all are. So while it is a marker, it is a common one.

There can be several dies affected by a broken hub. The area is missing off the raised areas on the coin struck with them.
How does this difference from a die chip? One adds more to the devices/fields because of the die there is a void, thus filled in on the coin. On the broken hub, the void on the hub creates a void on the design because of the broken metal off the hub. They are just opposite occurrences.

Chip adds a new appearance on the coin. A broken hub shows a void on that area. The void is caused by the missing area off the hub.

CoopHome The differences between a die chip and broken hub? Are they the same, or Opposite? Why?
