I got back the below item in the mail today and it appears that NGC is in over its' head these days to at least some degree. What surprised me was the white insert that holds the coin, in that the hole for the coin was obviously cut rather poorly by hand and is not even a symmetrical hole on the reverse of the slab. It looks a bit worse in hand than in the picture and I am aware that there are massive supply gaps going on at the moment but it looks cheap, unprofessional and if I hadn't gotten this item back directly from NGC I may have automatically assumed that the slab was fake. I honestly expected more from NGC and I am rather surprised that they let this out the door back to a customer.

I haven't decided if it is worth complaining to NGC yet about this or not. Any thoughts?

If customers do not let companies know they messed-up, the companies will never know to fix the issue, or they even have an issue to fix.

I'm not sure they will be able to fix this error for you, especially for free, but I would send a letter of complaint. They may even offer you a solution to your problem. But as far as I noticed, PCGS is having problems with this now too. If a coin has a non-standard diameter or, even worse, an irregular shape, then this always leads to consequences as in the photo above.

To me, this example looks extremely sloppy. It looks like it was done in the garage.

I'd contact NGC customer service and share the issue with them.

Something is off about that holder. It's not a modern holder and neither is the hologram . That's an older holder.

That is an old holder. NGC had quit offering the scratch resistant holder. I believe the issue is supply chain.
That is an ugly holder. Let them know

They should do it for free considering no one else tampered with it obviously. They encapsulated their own mistake.
