Hi I'm new here and this is my first post. I have this nickel with hole punched on the zero . The hole doesn't go all the way through. I can also see the number 0 at the bottom. It's super clean and there is no rim at top of hole. Could somebody please help me understand what this is. I find it neat as anything !! It doesn't look like any other coin hole I've researched. Thank u

It is damage. The opposite side will show a push out on the reverse. Someone tried to make it look like a mint error. But 99% of incuse marks on a coin are damage. Only 1% are mint errors. Just like 99.9 % of cars with dented/rusted/faded vehicles, happened after it left their factory. You can blame the mint for circulation damage. The coin is designed to take but others like to help it along making coins into victims.

First, welcome to CCF. Second, there should be a corresponding flat spot on the other side of this nickel. Please post a pic for us if you can. Thx.
