I went and put a 20 in at our local laundromat, what do you guys think for the fs 101? I'm shocked it's in as good a shape as it is considering where I got it. . . Thanks in advance

It is just Machine Doubling. Note how it is different on some devices as the design curves around the coin? That is how mahcine doubling works. It affects the outside/inside of devices. A doubled die enlarges the centers of the devices.

Note on the side by side comparison: The devices are wider in the centers. The closed devices the space in the center is smaller because of the doubled die. Even the design around the devices you can see doubled leaves. Strong notching on the corners of devices. Machine Doubling does not add a spread in the center, it removes the contour of the devices. It is caused by the machine. A doubled die has the doubling on the die. Doubled dies can also have Machine Doubling that is caused by the machine.

Note the date area/mintmarks on 4 1969-S the big doubled dies. Note the digits are all doubled, but then note the yellow arrows. That is where you see Machine Doubling. Note they are all affected differently, but all in the same direction. It is still a doubled die, but it has Machine Doubling on the coin. (When you see the Machine Doubling on the date and the mintmark, that is a big clue that is it is not a doubled die. Why not? Because the die creation is one step. The adding of the mintmark (Pre 1990 dies) the mint mark was added to the tempered die. So when you see it in the same direction on the digits and mintmark, it is not a doubled die.

Each time me learn something new, we are training our with with something to qualify or dis qualify in searches. It takes time, but after you see more and more of this, you will move on to the next coin that much faster. Look at the centers of the devices. If nothing there, then move onto the next coin. Dawdling on the same coin too long will always side track you with Machine Doubling.
