Pics too dark to see surface details clearly.

Looks like a re-plate to me. Check the edge.

Is that because it's so shiny but under the microscope Lincoln head looks circulated? The edge of the coin does seem odd. It's not smooth like a penny should be.

Again, reprocessed to my eyes and my experience.

If you can find an old Coin World magazine from the 1960's you'll find classified ads offering to reprocess steel cents "to make them look new again." For every 100 steelies you sent in you'd get back 50. (The reprocessor kept 50 as his fee for doing the work.)

Tens of millions of these things have been reprocessed over the past 60+ years! You've got at least three of them!

Agree, looks like a plating job. I've had dozens of plated/reprocessed '43 cents. Looks just like them.
Rest in Peace

Your 3 for 3 with your reprocessed steel cents.
Hope you didn't buy them as they have little value.

Return on ebay. They have a stack of them. I bought three to test the buyer. Only 3 dollars a piece. Sent them back an hour ago. Thanks for the feedback!

the steel cents were made by galvanizing the coin strip before punching out the coins, the edge is bare steel on the originals.

All reprocessed cents are plated with something, can be chrome, or zinc, or whatever they use that's silver colored to do it, but the edge will give them away due to the electroplating process, the edge won't be bare steel and will be plated also.

You're correct B-K the edges were exactly like that. I really appreciate the feedback so I know what to look next.

Steel cents look like copper cents with a different color...should have similar luster/cartwheels, just silver in color. Hope this makes sense...may help.
