I searched and have read a bunch about designations for the requirements to full bands, full torch dimes. As I'm starting my Roosevelt collection I am having a great time trying to cherry pick off the internet. I do have some questions however before I go to a coin show next week and do some in person buying.
First off, I have had some success! I'm not sure if demand is down on the series as I'm finding good prices for coins I find to be full band. It is a bit tricky to determine all the factors however. One, photos suck! That takes out 90% of the options! Two, pricing jumps dramatically from MS-63 to MS-66 and especially if you add the FB/FT designations. Nevertheless, I have found coins that look like they have come from older collections before the FB/FT designations were introduced in the early 2000's. Sorry, this is long winded but it brings me to my questions.
Do nicks across the bands that break the line between them negate the designation? Same question with the torch. Also does a poorly struck base base or damage to the base of the torch have an effect? In addition, what about a bad nick that dose not break the vertical or horizontal lines? Here are some photos to try and explain.

In this photo there appears to be a nick that breaks the lower bands. There is also a nick that doesn't break the vertical bands. There is also damage to the base. Personally I would pass on this purchase because it has a trifecta and I'm sure the MS number would be effected. Would these marks if taken individually negate a full band designation?
Here is another one that is actually advertised as a full band! Shocker! My question is on the circled part so ignore the fact it is obviously NOT a FB! Would that horizontal mark across the vertical bands alone negate the designation?
Thank you all so much! I am having so much fun with this series but as I get the the tougher years a nick here and there starts to cost big $$$!!!!
