Be wary of dealers that commonly publish photos like this as there is a fair chance that its sort of like doing a photoshop job on the coin. I see it quite a bit with Buffalo nickels too and my experience is that I will likely be disappointed when I see it in hand. If they are a professional dealer, they should be able to do their potential customers MUCH better. It actually takes work to produce a photo this overexposed.

AU Details.
No way the sellers photos captured the real deal. Doctored as usual.

Sorry for my negative post. My goal isn't to turn you away from the hobby, cause this hobby is the best! But... LOL at all the chatter that was disguised in the original pic. You don't want your hard earned coin budget $ tied up in this IMO. It's a bargain bin spot+$ sort of coin for $30 maybe, but still then I'd rather put $30 into something with Wow factor instead of eew.

As someone new to collecting coins, I suggest visiting a local coin shop (LCS) first and see what they have and what you like. Later, when you acquired more knowledge, you can go online and browse for coins.

The coin appears to have been cleaned. Send it back as the photos are deceptive. You can post any coin in the grading section and the members will give you an opinion before you make the purchase.

If you bought it for around 30 dollars , not a huge deal at
all , as even culls are around 28 29 .
Certainly you could return it , but leaving a negative is not
warranted in a case like this . Especially if the seller is nice about
it and easy to deal with .
Let's face it there are a lot of bad photos on ebay .

Although I don't see obvious cleaning hairlines, it's pretty marked up with no remaining luster, suggesting a past cleaning. I'd still say AU details. You can return it if you want, but either way I would chalk it up to a learning experience and be more careful buying on ebay.

Pacificoin's comment makes sense. The seller photos made the coin look better than it is, but I wouldn't make a big deal about it. As long as the return goes smoothly I wouldn't give negative feedback. For your next purchase, check out the many sellers that provide accurate photos.

The 1887 is a common date and you should easily be able to locate a pleasing, original example for less than you paid for this unattractive specimen.
