Hello all, new member and relatively new (5 years) collector. Received my 2022 order on Friday and was surprised to see this 'divot' between the eagle head and top wing. Any folks with more experience than me think this is mint error or post-mint damage?

to the CCF! The divot may be a strike through or damaged planchet but without better closeups it's hard to determine with the pic provided.

Thanks for the welcome and advice, Jim. Afraid I only have an iPhone camera as the option. Tried to get the detail in this closeup but at that zoom, there is blur. The mark is deeper than it appears and is very rough inside. Almost what you would expect from not enough material being poured into a mold... rather than imprinted or struck.

Just a silver melt coin. (not a real spendable coin) The value is in the metal, not in the bullion it is.

Could be worth a little more if it's a struck thru which some collect. If it's just damage I'd send it back for refund or replacement. No way to give opinion without better close up pics. Do a Google search for what struck thru looks like, buy a loop magnifier if you don't have one so you can see the edges of the pit.

Check out the topic "2021 S Morgan Fresh From The Fulfillment Center." There's pics of struck thru the owners sent to be graded and verified as struck thru. After you determine if yours is struck thru you could then decide if you want to spend the money to send it in for grading and error verification to one of the major grading companies like PCGS, NGC, etc. Small struck thrus usually don't add much value IMO.

Not sure if you'll get this, but what did you end up doing with the coin?

That does not look like a Mint produced coin. Where did you get it from? I also note a die chip at the base of the 1 it "1 OZ." The mint does not use that style of capsule. I'll post up my 2022 that just cam in today, you will immediately see the difference.

The OP ASE is a bullion coin, so produced by the USM but would have been purchased from another source. Could be struck through or damage. If damage some will let you return it for exchange ( APMEX is usually good about sending a return label) others make you pay return shipping so you lose on it.
