Your coin might just be missing a clad layer (rather than just environmental toning, which is what I first thought). The edge view might be helpful too. I'd set this one aside in a 2x2. SamCoin Pillar of the Community United States 3237 Posts	Posted 01/17/2022 3:37 pm Looks very likely to be a missing clad layer to me as there is still mint luster on the coppery side, which you would not see if it were environmental toning. I'm not sure how else to reconcile the weight difference to mint specs though. silviosi Pillar of the Community Canada 6244 Posts	Posted 01/17/2022 5:25 pm If the die is fresh at 80 ton strike (starting force for clad 25 cents) and missing clad layout at 0.01 or 0.008 mm the struck details will be OK for the cooper side and for the clad side of the coin show a weaker struck. Which it is the case here. Look at the struck around the rim, it is weaker. This at mint it say lower design profile effect. Report this Post to the Staff
