Hi everyone!

I came across this US 1998 D 25C Quarter this morning, first thing!

What do you make of this 9 on the date? I can tell you, through the loupe, in person, this is definitely a hung 9. It has depth and is actually stamped twice. I do see what appears to be Machine Doubling on the IGWT device but the doubling does not seem to make the device smaller. Also, the doubling is very very close for device lip, the part that touches the planchet flat surface, between the surface of the planchet to the slope of the device, there,is very very close together which could fool someone into believing it is or is not double die or Machine Doubling, etc..

I'm totally a novice as you may have discovered, lol. Can you please tell me what you think is going on with this quarter?

Hold on. Check back in 10 minutes. I just turned it over and found more odd things. Sorry.

Yes I grew with @john1. The doubling looks like MD on the front. The reverse either has a combination of damage or DDD plus a little MD.

I agree, Machine Doubling and DDD. Always include photos of the entire coin, both sides. Sometimes we can see things you may have overlooked. Thanks.
