I agree these are awesome so far! I'd like to add to the collection today with this AU unit from the Ethiopian Kingdom of Axum. It was issued on behalf of King Ebana in the 5th Century AD.

This coin type was on my want list for several years as the Axumite Kingdom is one of the few issuers of coins from the medieval period.

I never cared for the classic commemoratives other than the Hawaii and California one, that CA one is really nice.

Day 6.
1911 10 Centesimi from Italy.
I really like the contrast between the light and the dark patina.

Triggersmob - I like that 10 centesimi design too!
One of my favourite designs is the French Rooster used on the pre-WW1 French gold 10 and 20 franc coins. I was living and studying in France in 1979 and bought this coin from a bank in Lille for the official 'cours', basically bullion value. I think it was about £25. Strictly speaking I should have declared it when taking it back to England, but I carried it through the Customs quite happily, in a flip in my pocket! (Gold coins were subject to VAT in the UK).

Day 6, and we go back to Europe. After the change of the Rei (real) to the Escudo, Portugal had high hopes for its money. But through financial mismanagement and inflation the silver 50 centavos of 1916 was only worth .25 Euro Cents in 1999. But in 1916 it was a beautiful silver coin.

Mine, too! That is a beautiful coin and I hope to be fortunate enough to get one someday...

Here's my coin for today. The first time I really took any interest in coins was the day that I received a 1909 Lincoln in change at the local grocery store. I was hooked when I though about how old the cent was (even back then - fifty years ago.) Fast forward a couple of years and I decided to use some of my hard-earned yard mowing money to purchase a coin at the local shop. When I left, I had this 1909 V.D.B. cent. It was full red at the time, but not yet understanding how to care for coins, I wedged it into my hand-me-down Whitman folder. Over the years, it developed a rich purple hue, but is still in fairly nice shape. (You'll have to take my word for that - in a hurry and couldn't work out the lighting or focus last night for some reason...)

Wow! Are we seeing some great coins or what?!
Well, at least I feel this is a treat. I like this because these aren't the 'everyday ' coins that we are seeing, these are the ones that we feel are special. Also, I'm seeing some I've never seen before, that's the best part for me.

Day six

I'll conclude my token theme today with a local boy.

Day Six has not disappointed.

Now to the next Ike...

This was the second PCGS Ike I purchased, this one at a coin show in February 2017.

It solidified my decision to build a PCGS set instead of a graded set. When I bought yesterday's Ike from Bobby I also bought an NGC graded Ike he had. I was going to build a graded set using multiple TPGs, but the differences in slab dimensions seemed to bother me. Once I had two PCGS Ikes in hand my choice was clear.

Thank you! I just wish I had cleared the marks off the slab (reflected in the reverse) before I took the photo.

If I ever get a proper setup I will re-shoot the whole set. My current images are a mix sellers' pictures and my own photos taken over the lifespan of three different Motorola smartphones.
