Hello,
I am new to the forum, I really need advice on this penny. The penny is a 1940 Wheat penny, the zero looks like a slanted D. I seen a similar penny posted on Etsy, is this penny a error penny worth thousands?

. Not an error, it is PMD. Damaged by a coin counting/wrapping machine. AVOID Esty for coins at all costs.

It is the result of a contact mark most likely a vending machine where the metal was pushed over. It did not come from the mint that way

and we are glad you could join us! Your 1940 Philadelphia mint cent is very common, and we will all tell you it is only worth a few cents at most. The 0 in the date just simply took a hit from being out in circulation. I will say that Etsy is hugely unreliable when it comes to coins, since those selling prices are waaay to high for common coins, that are not errors, but instead are post mint damaged coins.

Avoid Etsy at all cost. Went there one time & was pretty disgusted with all the scammers. Never went back

Agree. That 0 took a hit--likely mechanical, possibly in a vending machine or coin wrapping device. While not common, this isn't all that rare. And, void Etsy when it comes to error coins.

YouTubers are known for often providing bad information on coins. ebay often has sellers misrepresenting coins. But Etsy is by far the worst when it comes to values. You were wise to come to this forum. Good, bad or otherwise you will get honest appraisals from the experts in this group.

You has the answer previous responds. About the Etsy and the other I can say: Old time in News paper we have a caricature one a day. Today we have a dozen on YouTube and hundreds on Etsy each day. Is up to as to discern.
