Was just wondering what this was I was seeing on the top of Lincoln's head? Looks like it's dented inward but the other side is perfectly straight. Thanks.

Large Date :
1974-D-Lincoln-Cent-Question. The large and small dates are 50/50%, so not a premium for the coin.

Depending on shape and the date, you can tell if it is normal or not.

When you go to the link, scroll to the bottom and check out the nickel. Looks like it could be due to a sunken die.

I would say just an effect from die flow lines

Would love to examine the coin in-hand.

Well all the large dates have that issue. So it is not a die wear issue. Did some more side by side comparisons. The small and large dates are found on Proof and Business strike dies. Some new differences noted on the proof/business strike reverses. The proof dies don't have the double lines that the business strike reverse have on the large dates. The reverses on the business/proof design dies are very weak on the small dates on both. So the stronger design is on the large date business strike reverses.
