Just noticed that the Ultra High Relief Golden Double Eagle is now unavailable while the coin undergoes repricing. Maybe some of the TARP money is going to be allocated to Coin Collectors and we'll each get one for free ;) Do you think? Or, am I just a little nutty from being snow bound?

Gold is $887 today and the mint wants $1239 now for it a difference of $352 thats a steep premium!

If they only allow one order and a cancel still counts, then some people might get messed up trying to screw the mint.

While reading the description of this, I hav a few questions. It says that as many coins will be minted as needed to fill demand. -thus making the odds of buying one second hand for closer to bullion value better.
It also says that supply will be limited because of a tight supply of planchets, thus causing some people to wait months to receive theirs. - Could this cause the mint to be unable to meet demand? Could the lack of planchets cause only a small number of these beauties to be produced? Thus making it a "modern rarity"? opinions?

It could be, the mint has been facing a planchet problem since the summer of last year. I am still waiting for my Double Prosperity set. I placed that order on January 5.

I noticed that they bumped the shipping date back to Feb. 20. Okay by me. No rush. I look forward to receiving it.

Delivery will be continued in 2010 for December 2009 orders as it stands. If the shortage of planchets in '09 is a major problem, they might be delivering these until the summer of 2010 as required. I'm looking for a mintage of up to 500,000 UHR Double Eagles. The economy could hold that number down more than the planchet shortage.

Quote: 500,000 UHR Double Eagle Isn't that much higher than the Buffalo mintage per year?

Please remember this is a one year only type. 2009 is it. Even with the economy down, expect hundreds of thousands of these to be purchased. As for the re-pricing less than one week into the release - I sure hope that 2 days over $900 don't cause a price increase because if it does they'll be "adjusting" the price on an almost weekly basis. P.S. If the price of gold dropped below $850 for 2 days, do you think they'd drop the price this quickly?

if gold drops you can bet the mintage will be very very low because they will not be able to buy the planchets, and even if they are shipping them through 2025 they can't mint anymore after DEC.31 2009 so doesn't matter how long it takes to ship and if they can't get planchets like they couldn't last year (and these planchets are going to be allot harder to get because of their thickness)

Quote: can't mint anymore after DEC.31 2009 Please tell where that is documented. These could be minted until 2025 if it takes that long to get the planchets. The mint has stated there is NO limit to the number produced. All orders are valid.

Quote: NO limit to the number produced I remember reading that there will be as many as there is demand, but I thought coins can only be minted for 1 year with that date! Anyways, the bill also said that if there were excess minted from 2009, sales will continue to go into 2010.

Pricing is based on the average London price fix for the previous Wednesday-Thursday so it's possible that if gold averages over $900 it will be $1239 tomorrow.
There is a chart that has the price ranges, all mint bullion will adjust weekly, so if gold keeps going up, so will the price of the coin(s)
