What was the original price of the 2008 ASE Proof West Point? Also, they seem to be priced much higher than the 2007 and others...what happened? Just supply and demand?

The 2008 Proof silver eagle was $31.95. Has the Mint announced when they will ship?

If I remember correctly, the mint sold them for $2.00 more in 2008, due to the price of silver. The Mint Sold The ASE in 2007 for $29.95.

The total mintage for the 2008 ASE is 713,353. Mintages for other years are lower, so it is probably a matter of supply and demand. I think since they were pulled from the mint catalog so quickly and never returned, people may not have had the opportunity to purchase them. The 2008 Proof ASE mintage is over 300,000 higher than the burnished ASE and yet they sell for far less.

I assume that they've already shipped since there are 100+ for sale on ebay at $80+ ea.

So, in this case it isn't both "supply and demand", it's just "demand" since there's more supply than in other years. Makes ya wonder what got people excited about 2008? I'd like one, but not at $80.00.

I buy a Proof ASE every year, but I usually make my purchase in October. This was the first year I missed out on buying one.

I cannot bring myself to paying over $80 for one. I'll probably wait until the price either drops or I'll have a permanent hole in the series.

I read this thread about the Mint and did they release the ASE-proofs yet, I checked the site and there is no mention of the release, could someone guide me to the right place, I think the mint has a few sites?, Last year I ordered the ASE'S and the Bald eagle around the middle of February, Thanks for all your help, Mike...

My wife paid $100.00 for one from a Coin Dealer in Albuquerque. We could have gotten it for $80.00 on the bay, but for a Christmas present, I am not squabbling.

WoW.....!
I'm glad I got my ASE '08 Proof early last year from the Mint for list price !
I also got two '08 uncirc's.....
I wouldn't pay $100.00 for a '08 ASE Proof either....I'd just do without !....

Early bird gets the worm sometimes I guess! ......

Yeah Mike (MorgansDad).....

Daviscfad is right, this thread right here is talking about the 2008 proofs NOT the 2009 Proofs which haven't been released yet. That's why you didn't find them on the website.

And no, there is only ONE OFFICIAL U.S. Mint website.

Well Eaglefoot, paying $100.00 for a coin that I could get at least $80.00 for on ebay isn't too bad. Seeing as my 401K has lost $28,000, and I lost $40,000 on one piece of Rental Property I purchased, I am not going to worry too much about twenty bucks. Sometimes paying a little more to a coin dealer, so he makes a nice profit, pays back in the future when he calls you with a good deal he has. A little give and take never hurts.

......with all of that when put it THAT WAY !.....

I was only referring to the difference in the original list price comparatively of $31.95 to $100.00, when I got mine.
And that's a BIG difference in todays recession/hard times era ! Esp. for those who might not be able to afford to even fill their GAS TANK !
$70.00 difference for some is nothing, but it's everything to others.
HENCE.......

Ebay, 2008 ASE Proof, auction closes in 2 hours and 30 minutes. Current price is $91.00. Looks like you early birds may be sitting on some profit, grats!
