This is in the mail and should arrive early next week. seller's pics. Also, is it common to find such a large die crack on Seated Liberty quarters such as the one on the reverse? It seems to go from the "D" in UNITED to the "U" in UNITED.
Looks like a touch of rub on the eagle's left wing (right side as you view it) and perhaps a touch of rub on the right leg feathers. I think I would call this AU-58
Sure looks like some friction in the obverse fields but otherwise virtually no wear. Nice eye appeal and surfaces look original. I'm at AU-58 based on these images. If it makes the mint state cut an MS-64 wouldn't be out of line.
There are hints of proofiness, especially on the reverse. At first I was actually thinking slightly impaired proof like PF-58, but the obverse doesn't comply. The fields aren't smooth enough and the denticles aren't quite sharp enough.
There is also just a tiny touch of wear on the reverse -- on the eagle. Don;t think that's a strike issue. So slight that it could be forgiven, perhaps, but all told I come up with a darn nice AU58.
It's a nice coin - one that I will probably only see in photos such as this.
Regarding the cracks - that's what I really like about the classic coins. Those, and the various types of die work, make them more appealing to me. You can see what happened at the mint 150 years ago!
