1999 Zincoln. Has been worn down - the zinc core is showing through.

Agree, post-strike damage. Copper plating (and some of the zinc) on high points has been ground down in a lateral fashion. We see one or two of these a month on this forum. Imagine the coin (lodged under a wooden pallet perhaps) being slid around a smooth-finished concrete floor in a store or industrial workshop.

it is way under weight. lost a lot of material, looks like it was sanded down to the zinc core. now worth .8 cents

If it had been struck on a dime planchet, it would not have any copper on it at all.

Thank you for the responses all! I greatly appreciate it, the consensus is that it is PMD, a new term that I just learnt. I'll be more considerate of the cropping and the number of pics next time!

Normal strike was sanded off the coin and now you see the final result. Thus you see the zinc showing though on what used to be the highest points of the design.

@Big-Kingdom wow, It might actually be. Does kinda look like the AM and FG might match. If it is, that's one to make you cry lol

to the CCF. You have already received all the pertinent and correct information. Clarifying the photo comments - all our experts need are single in-focus cropped full coin shots of both the obverse and reverse - and from there we can usually provide an informed opinion judgement on almost any coin shown to the CCF.
