Hi there, I'm a complete novice when it comes to identification - we have a coin collection at home, inherited from my late father-in-law. This coin looks Greek to us, but searching for hours on Google with descriptive terms is proving fruitless!! Could we humbly ask anyone if they can identify this coin? There seems to be a good amount of detail present but we can't find anything helpful on Google. Here's a link to some images of the coin: https://drive.google.com/drive/fold...?usp=sharingThanks so much in advance!

Your coin is a Roman Imperial issue. The reverse is REPARATIO REIPVB; emperor standing left, with right hand raising kneeling turreted woman and holding Victory on globe in left; B in right field. The coin was struck in Thessalonica A.D. 378- 383 and the mintmark is probably SMTES. I can't quite make out the obverse legend; but this type was issued for three rulers-- Gratian (D N GRATIA-NVS P F AVG) Valentinian II (D N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG) and Theodosius I (D N THEODO-SIVS P F AVG)

Quote: Maybe it's Magnus Maximus from Arles No, it is clearly from Thessalonica. Not only is part of the mintmark legible, but the B in the right field should remove any doubt, as it was only used at Thessalonica.
