Ok guys... I bought this. Only my 3rd ever slabbed coin.

Why isn't there a grade on it?

Believe it or not this may look like common bullion but it's actually pretty rare. Made specifically for ebay, by Perth Mint, from what I was able to find.

But where's the grade on the slab? Why pay for a slab without a grade? Why bother putting it in a spab without grading it?

It's all terribly bizarre.

There is no grade as there is no grade. All that was asked of NGC was to certify that it is genuine. Hence why its marked "Certified Genuine"

There a few, this list has all the NGC holder types:

https://www.NGCcoin.com/coin-grading/holders/

This is for all the details grades (coins that have issues):

And NGC won't slab a coin if it has any of these:

@hfjacinto it's good they have some standards on what they'll put on a slab, I guess.

My buddy told me just today as we talked about this that people are getting Geiger bars slabbed.

And I just sat there and rolled my eyes.

Putting an ebay logo on a slab is a standard? I guess it is, albeit a low one. Considering the number of fake coins advertised and sold on ebay I would run a million miles if I was a coin grading company.

It also raises questions as to why it was done. I wonder if ebay has a pricing arrangement with NGC for sellers wanting authentication? Means extra jobs for NGC and free advertising for ebay. Will PCGS follow suit? I doubt they would sully their reputation as the No 1 grading company.

my guess it's a good way to get an apprentice some training, as messing something like this up would I dare say a bit hilarious.
