as regards to 'states of' they look flattened to me America is 'smeared' towards the rim indicating a deteriorating die

Guys, I have shown this on a few different threads and seem to get the same response. If the link does not help, maybe the pic with both will. There is a lot going on with this coin, of which everybody is correct but I think the OP is referring to the obvious master trail die. I did not put pointers on the OP's pic, did not think it necessary.

@Makecents, I think you discuss about two complete different coins. The OP coin is from complete different die. And anyways the traildies are not errors.

Make I say the trails are not considered errors to the OP to know. For the master die I do not say nothing because I just spend the time for nothing. the name is done do not matter.

The raised area on your reverse is part of Ridge Ring. Often seen on obverse of cents from that same era. Tails distort from corners of the die in a straight line:
