1878-Morgan-Dollar-7/8TF,-VAM? 1878-Morgan-Dollar-7/8TF,-VAM?

There is pretty much just one mark on the cheek as you can see on the scan.

Watcha think?
Thanks,

Also, this coin has a very nice luster!

I say MS-62 and possibly 63 but I may not be the best to help but that would be my guess by looking at the coins I have in hand graded by NGC/PCGS/ANACS

Also, there appears to be doubling around all the stars, a little on the date, on E PLURIBUS.

Is this a VAM?

It is even looking like on LIBERTY there is doubling.

my VAM book hasnt arrived yet but as soon as it does I will try to find out for you. until then maybe someone else will be able to help further with this coin for you. I can tell you I have a 8Tf with doubling and trippling in the stars and no one has been able to attribute it for me either to wether it was some sort of VAM coin or not. Here is a link to my coin if you want to take a look at the pics and see if its close to the same thing you are seeing on your coin https://goccf.com/t/4081

I cut out some of the stuff that doesn't matter to reduce the size...

1878-Morgan-Dollar-7/8TF,-VAM?

I could not get the stars to show very well.
The R is very prominent, although a lot of the stars and E PLURIBUS is doubled.

Hopefully, the pic is good enough to see the double date

And why not another post on this...
One the reverse, the appears to be a "crack" going from I-T-E-D-(WING)-S-T-A-T on the reverse.

How is the luster on the coin? If it is full, I think it could grade out at MS63 even with the hit on the cheek.

Very nice, clear 7/8 tail feathers!

The luster is excellent... this one and the 96 are two of the most lusterous (?) coins that I have.

when you talk about the crack on the reverse does it look something like this 7/8Tf I have? If it looks like this then it's a common thing on 7/8 Tf reverse coins

WOW!! I just realized I am over 50 posts, that was fast. But yeah I thought it was some sort of "special die break" on my 7/8 Tf also but after I asked in this forum I took a surf over to herritage and looked at their 7/8 TF and seemed everyone I looked at had the same thing so it must be a common thing

well I have my VAM book but with the poor quality of the pictures it is impossible to attribute this coin. I have tried and tried and I just cant tell enough about the details to help with this one, sorry! If there is any way to get better pictures I may be able to help you in attributing this coin for you but it is like running my head into a brick wall with the pictures you provided

My guess on this would be #38, but it does not match up 100% with that. I can only really tell the doubling on the right side of the 1, not both.
