Nice example Die Deterioration Doubling, in my opinion. That reverse die was on its last legs.

Yes, probably a couple of times a day between DDD and MD
which are both worthless doubling.

Agree, Machine Doubling and a late die state. Not uncommon.

DDD does happen to the nickels till about 1999. As mentioned extreme die wear and Machine Doubling. On the doubled dies, they tend to be horizontal, rather then vertical. Machine Doubling is more vertical.

so many nickels of that period look like that, it's one reason why high grade, nicely struck examples from then carry a premium
