What kind of success have you had with Canadian dime rolls ? Out of 3000 dimes (30 rolls) I have found - one 1970 dime (I did not know they were this rare) - 1966 & 1968 Cdn silver in the same roll along with 4 post-1964 American dimes - 1961 Cdn & 1942 American Mercury dimes in the same roll with 48 post-1964 American dimes. - 15 x 2001P (Schooner) - 15 x American post-1964 dimes scattered in the rest of the rolls Strangely enough I recently found a 1910 Cdn dime (totally blackened) at the end of penny roll. That was a pleasant surprise.

Well, you've done a lot better than I have. Fifty rolls gave me two silver dimes,(1-'64 and 1-'58). I'm up to 3-1970's and about 30 American dimes. I've gotten more collectible Canadian dimes in penny rolls! Right now all I'm doing are pennies and nickel rolls. Had better luck with those.

Welcome to the Forum.. 1945V. You were quite lucky to find a 1970 ten cent in a roll, with a mintage of a little over 5 million, there's not too many around. Also, I have searched a lot of rolls and, never found a Mercury dime, found about every thing else. anyway, have fun on the the Forum, and good roll hunting.

I've found 8 silver dimes in roughly $800-1000 worth (roughly estimated). I have found all of ONE 1970 dimes in that amount. No silver US dimes, but way too many clad US dimes to count. (Complete set of clad from circulation in Canada.) I'd say you did real well.

I went through another batch of 50 rolls (5000 dimes). I was not as lucky as last time. This time round I found the following:
1 x 1963 Cdn dime 1 x 1970 Cdn dime 70 x copper-clad American dimes
I think hunting through nickel rolls is more exciting than dime rolls.

Pre-1967 Cdn silver dimes (for non-key dates and in well circulated condition) typically go for $1.00 Cdn ($0.80 USD) for their silver content. 1968 Cdn silver dimes go for $0.63 Cdn ($0.50 USD) due to their lower silver content (50%). 1967 Cdn silver dimes come in both 50% and 80% silver varieties and typically sell for 65% silver price rates.
US silver dimes (for non-key dates and in well circulated condition) are worth a bit more because they have 90% silver content and typically go for $1.00 USD ($1.24 Cdn).

What about quarters from the 40's?

The silver content ratio in quarters is the same as in dimes. Just multiple out the dime prices by 2.5X.
1940s quarters are going for $2.50 Cdn each, but were selling for less than $2.00 1 month ago, before silver rebounded from $9.50 to $13.50 USD/oz.

I used to mostly search nickels for pre-82's but I've started searching dimes (also pennies) more lately. I've found 3 silvers from the 50s and 60s out of about $400 searched. I've stopped counting the us dimes but the average was about 2.5% before I think.
Has anyone else come across "coinage distribution inc" machine-rolled dime rolls? I got a bundle of these last time and they were all steel, so I wondered if they might be getting coins searched by the mint for nickel. If I get any more of those I'm not sure if it's worth opening them unless some batches are not searched.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the "king" of Canadian dimes, the 1969 Large Date. It will have the same large font size as the 1968, not to be confused with the very common 1969 small date.
FYI: The mintage of 1970 dimes is 5,249,296. This is fairly scare compared to previous and future years: 55,833,929 for 1969, 41,016,968 for 1971, 60.1 million for '71 (Source: Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins, 2008).

Although, searching dime rolls is not as exciting as nickel and penny rolls, I go through quite a few every couple of weeks. In my last batch of 3500 dimes searched, I found 1 x 1960 Cdn silver, 2 x 1970 and over 50 US copper clad dimes.
Besides silver, as gawd0wns mentioned the 1969 large date (extremely rare) and 1970 dimes are worth keeping an eye out for. I would also add to the list, 2000P dimes. These are extremely rare. I have never seen one.

I went through a number of rolls just after Christmas (generally a good time of the year) and found 1-1968, 1-1964, 1-1959, 1-1937(poor condition) and a Netherlands Antilles 1990 10c in excellent condition.

I guess I have the luck of the Irish today (St. Patricks's day).
I hadn't found any silver dimes for the last 3-4 weeks. Today I picked up ten rolls and found 15 x 1968 silver dimes and one 1960 silver dime.
Also, I found almost one hundred of 1968 (nickel) to 1980 dimes in almost uncirculated condition. It looks like the dimes rolls were in storage for the last 35 years.

Good for you. Haven't found any silver at all yet. Thought I had with a few 1968's until I took out the magnet :(
