Hello,

I have a change to buy the Innocent vii piastra below. The collector is asking about $150. It looks ok to me although I was still waiting on weight and diameter.

Any thoughts on the condition, price, etc?

Thank you all in advance!

@roma, looks like it has been removed from a mount. That should hurt the value of the coin some. That will also throw the weight off a bit when you get it. Otherwise, I'm not seeing anything specifically of concern.

Yeah . . . the seller is asking too much. Thanks for confirming my thoughts.

Have you researched recent sales of this coin?

When I looked in CoinArchives and acsearch, I found no sales of this coin in the last 6 months, and only 5 different examples which have come up for sale (auctions covered by acsearch) in the last 10 years. So it seems to be a somewhat rare type.
The most recent results I could find were these: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=3789454 650 euros
https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4794382 650 euros
(after auction commission, the total would be ~ 750 euros or $900)
The one you are looking at is in lower grade, and has the mount damage. So, as @spence says, you must take this into your analysis.

I have bought a 17th century piastra with mount damage and paid considerably more than $150 because it was a type I really wanted in my collection.

In my opinion $150 is not an outrageous price for this coin. If you have a budget constraint, you can try negotiating with the seller for a lower price.

Interesting piece. still very worthy of including in any collection, but
this coin has had a hard solder rim mount removed.
Should reduce the price by more than 50%, relative to the price for an equivalent undamaged coin.

seems like a fair price if it is genuine (I have no clue how to tell)

Thank you all for your replies...
@sel_691 where do you see evidence of the rim mount? Is it the damage at 12 o clock of the indentations around the rim? I am asking so I know what I'm looking for and the correct terminology...

At 12 o'clock is where the hard solder has been.

I am negotiating with the seller. There are a number of more worn examples with jewelry pendants still attached for sale on ebay from France. They are around €180 shipped.

I own a cosimo III piastra with the pendant loop attached but paid far less... I understand the Innocent vii is a more interesting coin, but still considering it...
