1972 D Lincoln Cent, Memorial Is Crooked Or Risen Or Flattened (Not Sure At All)

Kilsamilsa New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 02/27/2022 4:23 pm Hi! I'm a newbie, but I don't have to be new to see there's something going on with this coin. There are either risen or flattened spots on the memorial that caused it to be crooked. I went to error.ref, but no pictures really match, so I'll have to read through them all and try to pinpoint what caused this. Does anyone happen to know off hand? Has anyone seen this before? Thank you in advance! This might be from being Struck Through Grease, but also could be just damage. I'm hoping that you have success adding a pic of the front of this coin to the thread so that we can get a better idea of what happened. Thx. If the planchet is under weight it will have a weak strike up because of not enough material to strike up the whole design. 2. If there is grease filling in certain areas of the devices, they will be partial strikes or totally gone if the grease has filled the devices almost full. 3. Often on the Memorial cents the area on States of can be weak from two different issues: 4. Circulation can wear away the design off a coin: 5. Weak/low pressure strikes can make a poor strike on a coin: 6. Die Cuds can leave a missing area on the one side raised above the rim edge and even leave a weakness because of the lack of the resistance from the missing void on the opposite die. 7. Water or oil on the fields of the dies can leave an area lacking the normal view we expect on a coin. Incuse area on the fields: 8. Struck through a capped die: 9. Struck through debris during the strike: 10. Damage to the die: Die clashes: So this is the top 10 events that can alter the surface of the coin during the striking process. I could of added hundreds of images more on each subject. But this is the short Readers Digest condensed version. CoopHome: What can prevent/alter/happen to alter the strike on a coin that happen at the mint? (Sorry #4 is a post strike event, circulation wear. Jody1970 New Member Canada 24 Posts	Posted 07/28/2022 12:07 am I have a 1971 d that looks wavy something like your. Mine has an excellent strike. My penny is uneven. Goes up & down due to uneven sidr. Other side is flat. Look at your penny from the sides. Mine the edge is thin in spots & goes thicker in others. Take a peek at it sideways.
