On My 1985 D Nickel Is It Some Sort Of Error? Bad Lettering

On my one trip to Vegas my wife hit a $100 jackpot on the Nickel-Slots that paid-off in coin, not an electronic jackpot. It seemed like most of the coins in her 'Big-Gulp' sized cup looked like this one. I had a nice score on the 'Wheel of Fortune' slot when I won 1,250 quarters ($312.50) and again, the coins were battered and bruised, but not to the same extreme as the nickels. I think we were there just at the end of the solid coin payout era. As I understand it now, you put in a casino card and the cost of a play and your winnings (yeah, right) are all placed on that card. Any of you 'Whales' out there know if I'm correct on this one?
