The value of this recently graded 1918 bn is 75 dollars in ms-64 and 325 dollars in ms-66. The reason I am asking is I just got back this 1909-vdb that also grades ms-64 and the number of nicks is almost tripled. PCGS has only 1 1918 brown listed in ms-66 and 12 listed in ms-65. I think this coin grades higher than a ms-64. Here is a picture of hits on the 1909-vdb. Do I try to increase its value by 3 or 4 times or leave alone? It's as much the principle of the thing as the value. Is it a better coin than a ms-64 or not? Don't consider the amount it costs to resubmit.

I would crack out and resubmit raw instead of a regrade.
People trying to collect a brown set may very well pay the PCGS price value.

Wish I had your grading money! Personally, I wouldn't even consider re-submitting it.

Always appreciate your opinion. I have learned a lot from you. Personal events recently have made me realize you can't bring it with you. I am guaranteed retirement and health insurance. The two things us older people worry about. I have to have a hobby. It used to be the casino and fishing! I have spent way less money doing this. With more enjoyment. I have a boss who has never been married, no children and inherited a few million. he won't even buy himself a new truck. He makes over 120 thousand a year is 67 years old and lives with his mom. He will die with several million in the bank and his nieces will spend it all. I always think of this when I am spending money. LOL
Rest in Peace

I also agree do not send it in for regrading . MS-64 BN is all I can see with this 1918 Lincoln .
Since you can't take all your MS Lincolns with you ,you might as well send them all to me . This way you no longer will have the burden of submitting and resubmitting every single day !

lighting a little dark to see surfaces properly. I cant see it higher than MS64. looks like there is at least 5% red so it might go RB but without better light I stick with BN. I wouldnt slab it

As panzaldi mentioned in the other thread...18 is known for its strike...guess the graders knew that too...so it has a certain threshold in their mind (I thought at least 65 maybe 66?)(but what do I know)...lol
Now instead of the casino...you can bet with resubmissions...
Just remember...House rules!

I really like the 1918 as a 65BN based on contract marks and eye appeal. To hit 66 it would have to have strong, uninterrupted cartwheel luster under the brown.

The dies were updated in 1915 and most of the coins struck through 1919 have nice detail, especially in the beard. This seems to confuse a lot of new collectors who believe their coin is nicer than what it really is due to the strike. As you've discovered, a good strike doesn't equate to a high grade. It's mostly about contact marks, luster and eye appeal.
