There is no way for that to happen during the striking of the coin.

Note the outside edge of the coin? On normal strikes there will be no distortion of that edge. Note the rim on the outside of both sides of the faces on the coin? That will follow the edge around the faces. On your coin, note the pushed inwards of that rim. So that is how you can tell that the coin was altered, after the strike. With the outside edge and this rim being altered, it is damaged intentionally in a garage. No bonus for a damaged coin. Even the smallest damage will turn it into a cull coin. (just a face value coin after this happens)
