Hello, thank you for your time and knowledge. I have come across something that I have yet to encounter. Can someone please help identify what this "O" mark is. And any other info you may have about this (hopefully unique) coin. If photos are unsatisfactory please let me know. I will take new ones on my phone. Thank you.

Interesting. In my opinion that's not a Hew Orleans mint mark. Appears to be post-strike damage--perhaps a deliberate mark/hit/ding placed by someone years ago, or just plain random. Others will be along to comment.

The photos appear to have been distorted while being processed--tall Y axis, shortened X axis.

@just, first welcome to CCF. Second, that looks like a small gouge where the surrounding metal has been "smushed" up to form a mostly oval ridge. This is not a mintmark but rather damage. It is a decent, early S mint Wheat cent which carries a bit of value over face though. Worth saving in a 2x2 I think.

to the CCF

Not a O mm. If it was, it would have to be on the striking die in which case there
would be 100's of thousands of them produced and would have been discovered by now.
It is just some sort of damage.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I appreciate you all taking the time to read and comment. I figured it was a long shot that it were actually the New Orleans mint mark. Just thought it was odd that it's raised and placed almost perfectly center the wheat stalks. I actually have a plastic penny roll full of these guys. I have ALOT of wheaties. Although, I'm concerned some may be counterfeits. Due to weight and appearance.Where would I post possible counterfeits? Is that even allowed? I will start posting my collection shortly. Thanks again for your time and patience.

Lincoln Cent mintmarks are always under the date on the obverse.

@just, if you have a specific question about a potential mint error or variety, then this is the correct subforum. If it is in the wrong spot, then the mods will help get your threads to the right spot. Also, please remember best practice is to start a new thread for each new coin. Thx.

Sorry, not an "O" mint mark, just post mint damage.
