I promise and I will go ahead. First anything here in this post is free to use for your educational purpose and this forum purpose. Due to the space of the server I will not post the photos which in majority are proprietary of collections or museums. The conclusions are from personal investigations and studies. More must be done and more peoples to be involved instead of just a couple.

1965. Was two different strikes:
1. In 1965 in Philadelphia very limited No and pack in the plastic set. Those was better quality then the mass production of San Francisco.
2. In San Francisco at the end of the 1966 in December with very poor quality and pack in cello. None of those strikes was find in better then MS 63.

MAIN 1964 SMS.

Folklore say only ones from the Eva Adams collection exist, this it is the MYTH. Is just what was put on the market and certify by TPG, and it is believe that 50 dozens of sets could exist, which it is the true and also true not find in the wild (you will understand why not in the wild)

How was work those trials and how the mint work for any sets of all years with the Mint sets: The best Sets are selected and keep for the mint museum, for the dignitaries and international relations gifts of the US. Another's gifts are for example The Royals families, which I had the chance to see with my friend (in fact him look at the sets and me consult the Archive which him can not have access). I have photos give by the Royal Collection in charge expert with no right to publish.

I come to the conclusion after see two of those sets one (not see) in London and the second in Monaco, that we have small differences between what TPG certify and what the others Sets show. Those minimal differences brink me at the conclusion that the coins was struck on two different Dies which has very small different markers.

The DIES: Halves and Quarters same design that the BS. The Dimes, Nickels and Penny from proof dies. It say the coins are more dull. TRUE. This effect is done by the texture of the metal. The SMA has the High parts more versus today is frozen and the lowers parts transition from normal proof and frozen aspect, which give this filling of dull.
Second the Markers: Due to the fact you can not analyze in hand those from selective collection I gone with the photos and I saw the markers from Eva Adams collection are not present on the others, but absolute 100% same master Dies.

Design: All the SMS 1964 are characterized by very sharp strike and high relief design which meet the lowers parts of the coin almost strait. Second: The letters seem to be more flat at theirs highs point then any others strikes.

Package: in plastic set and blue dark paper (cartoon) and sticker on bottom right corner.

Hope to be useful and any commentary are welcome in any sense.

I do not intend to publish nothing but ready to collaborate with those recognized.

PS. No secretary able to assist me for punctuations or prefect grammar at this time.

But they were probably in cello as the Proofs and Business strikes were in cello then.

It is the 1965 that had the holders with the information on the case.

Thanks COOP for the photos.

In 1965 San Francisco was close, and in order to satisfy some collectors, the Philadelphia Mint produce some SMS sets in plastic cases. The number is unknow and also where was distributed. The rest of SMS 1965 the production start in early December 1966 till mid January 1967.

For the 1964 you are right for the Proof and Circulation coins who was pack in cello. The 1964 in plastic cases appear on the market recently when someone well know(forgot the name), show the pack of the really SMS 1964.
