Hi everyone! I am super excited to be here. I literally started collecting in the past week. I am surrounded by hundreds of coins/modern pocket change and my neck is wrecked! lol. I have a lot to figure out and I have to start examining each coin from the beginning. I am getting a nice 2022 coin book tomorrow. Anyhow, I am going back over some coins I have looked at already and just found what looks like an actual 1983 error penny. It is also slightly off center. I am probably more excited than I should be, but I wanted to see if anyone has seen this or knows if it has any value. (Of course!) My magnifier is only 5-8% so I hope it's clear enough, but the error is pretty big. Thank you SO much for helping me out and I'm glad I have a reason to be asking!! (Working on uploads)

Little hard to tell with the photos, but it could be a die chip. I also noticed what might be a die crack going from the top of Lincolns head between the We and Trust to the rim. You can search this forum for "Spike Head" and will see examples.

I had a closer look at the head area crack and it's more apparent than in the above photo. I have to go look up die chip. lol. I will see if I can upload a better image straight from my phone. Thank you!!!

Can't be 100% sure from the images but appears to be a small unlisted Cud. There are a number of similar ones for that year, but none in that location.

I've been scouring and can't find one similar. I have found many with larger Cuds, if this is a Cud. Did you notice the crack as well? MrBreeze pointed that out to me, as I am very new to this and I was just focused on the bottom. Would you bother investigating something like this further? I am really psyched about it but do I see if it has value or just save it and do a happy dance? Thanks!

You guys are the best and yes, this is so much fun! I need to find a way to get clear pics of the back, to the naked eye with mag you can (maybe) see some extra letters, but I couldn't get a good upload! I just ordered a book to start keeping coins in, so it's off to the races!

Thanks for the additional photos. I was trying to match the spiked head to cuds-on-coins listings, I thought maybe SKH-1c-1983-25 but the reverse die cracks are not present on your coin. Check this link out for the 1983 spiked heads. http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-ce...s-1980-1989/ You will need to scroll down a bit to get to the 1983's

I was actually on this page too looking but you pointing it out made me see that the spiked head is bigger than I thought.... going through the hair.. thank you! On the reverse there are some examples showing a small line to the left lower corner of the memorial towards the rim. But only on the left side. I'm still looking over that website for more. I keep thinking I'm seeing other letters but I can't really see it well enough. 1983-21 has a similar small Cud on lower obverse like mine, kind of, but not in exact spot. :)

This is a nice coin you presented here, lots of die cracks and a rim Cud. Quote: What's 2x2? LOL Not sure if you got your answer on the 2x2 question yet. A 2x2 is a 2 inch square lined by mylar to protect your coins. they come in different sizes for each type of coin minted. like these: (you don't need to buy from the following site - it is just an example. You may be able to find better prices) https://www.coinsupplyexpress.com/g...feed=Froogle

I don't know if this is a smart way to keep them but I want to get them organized for now. But thank you for the info! Good to know. Maybe I will pick up a few for the cooler coins. And yessss I am so excited about my penny! I keep finding more interesting things on it. Next investment is a usb microscope! I'm officially obsessed now lol :)
