Hi y'all. A month in and already looking for what's next. Originally from L.A. and carried around a handful of my grandfather's coins for 17 years, 4 moves and half the country. But after finding a 1835 rupee coin and marveling over the age, I started picking up my own change to examine. I've met lots of snobs and those unwilling to teach, so I'm to find coin community before I threw my hands up and said forget it. I may ask the same question twice or make up my own conclusions while NOT patiently waiting. But I'll always do it with a smile and help in return. Have a great weekend friends!

Great coin, there is probably a lot of history in that coin in your hand. One of the great things about coin collecting is the connection of coinage to life at the time of mintage and considering the history from then through the present. Ah the stories our coins could tell.

Nice coin, nice start.
L.A. -- Would that be Louisiana or Los Angeles?

Los Angeles born and raised. Thank you for all the kind welcome messages. My grandfather probably had no clue his BEI trading company coins and a few silver dollars would be something I stuck in a box to "take a look at later". But here I am 17 years later, finally starting. Btw, Is there a not a way to reply to a a single comment or person? I think I accidentally reported a comment while poking around.

First, welcome!
As far as this comment: "Btw, Is there a not a way to reply to a a single comment or person? I think I accidentally reported a comment while poking around."
I am curious as well. I just recently came back to the forum and not seeing a way to reply to specific posts without doing it like I did above. I find that very odd for a very active forum. Maybe we are both missing something obvious?

Maybe we are both missing something obvious? It's not obvious, like a "quote this post" tab to click, but it's not difficult at all once you find out. You have to highlight the text to want to quote, then "copy" it. Instead of using quick reply, click the "switch to full reply". There you will see various options, like bolding text, using smilies, etc. Click the "insert quote" button - it's 2nd from the right, the icon with a document and a red arrow. The quote brackets will appear. Right click and "paste". If there's an easier way, I'm unaware of it. ETA; I forgot to say hello and

This forum is wonderful--content and people--but it's functionality has a taste of late 1990s/early 2000s to it--when compared to many contemporary blogs.
