Could someone identify what has happened to the 3 on this coin and if Liberty looks closer then normal to the rim?

3 looks like it took a circulation hit and LIBERTY is closer to the edge because the obverse looks like a very minor MAD.

Now I see it being misaligned at the bottom of the reverse which would do the same to the top of the obverse. sorry I'm still taking in so much information and have studied coins for 2 years now every day, I know I've learned so much but feel like I take one step forward and 2 back

Agree, a circulation hit. Curiously, this last digit hit is not uncommon on earlier Lincoln cents--often caused in mechanical vending machines.

The obverse die looks like it was made with a swelling master hub, that If that design was continued, they would have needed a new one made, but the following year, the design changed to the JFK half dollars. The die states for this coin was nice as it is in the early die wear states. Just a few slight contact marks. I agree the '3' looks like a contact mark. Not enough damage to make it a wrapping machine issue. To nice of a coin to sell for silver melt. Not nice enough to have graded. It would be hole filler for a Whitman folder.

Thank you for all that information, it's very helpful. Now I'm going to go read about how swelling of the master hub effects the coin!

Probably won't find a lot of information. Just something I've observed on some years coins. 1968 cent, 1982 cents large dates, 1982 quarters obverses. Affects the side with the date, because the reverse can be changed with out much notice.
