I'm thinking damage on the Bison's rump. Could be a planchet clip or not at K9 the clip seems to be angled (not vertical front to back)

Damage... clip on left is not clean. Damage on right is post mint.

Looks like it was squeezed with a pair of vise grips and sanded off the opposite rim of the coin. PSD.
