I've been in the Blue Ridge mountains for the past two days working to get my mother-in-law settled into an assisted living facility. We have been clearing out her house and I ran across a cache of coins. Included was this 1899-S $20 piece. Having never dealt with gold coins, I wanted to authenticate the piece before we decide how to proceed. Hope these photos will suffice. I've never tried to photograph gold and had difficulty capturing details. Thank all for your thoughts.

Looks legit to me also.
I would suggest getting it certified to prove authenticity if you are going to sell it.
It would probably bring in the range of around $1200.00, depending on the grade,

The coin has typical wear of a genuine VF $20 Liberty. The minimum value would be melt and today it is at $1897.

Looks like XF with some reverse rim damage and a common date, so pretty much a bullion piece. I'd expect it to be worth $1800 or so. Gold buyers are pretty coy about quoting their buying prices online, but I'd expect 5-10% under melt.

Thank you all for your insights. I just put it on the scale and it weighs in at 33.37 grams. Will estimate the value at $1800 as of today and proceed accordingly. I plan to offer the other family member $900 and keep it with the wife and me if they agree. There was also a 1910 $2.5 Indian in the pile that I just ran across.
