The last US coin series not featuring a dead guy. Objectively gorgeous, I think. Definitely my favorite coin when I was a kid.

How would you grade this one?

I could see an AU-50/53ish here on this nice overall coin.

Too much glare to get a good feel for this coin. On the obverse I see a little flatness to the left breast and on the reverse a little flatness to the eagle's neck area. I can see AU something on this lovely lady.

The Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea/Native American dollars don't feature a dead guy.

Technically, the OP is correct - it is the last regular issue series not featuring a dead guy. The fact that SBAs and Sacs feature dead women does not alter the truth of this statement.

To save you a little time , it grades straight. It's also really that white. It's almost frosty.

Another example of the market acceptable cleaned/dipped. I was at AU50 because I net graded it down.

For what it is worth, there's not an iota of cleaning evidence on this coin. It's been under my scope and there are no directional abrasions, streaking or haloing.

The coin is, in fact, white, and I'm pretty sure it was that color when it left the mint.

Although the coin is bright, I don't see evidence of dipping or abrasive cleaning. There is obvious circulation wear that looks natural. I think this one is over-graded, my personal opinion is AU-53 tops.

I want to walk back my cleaned comment to: The surface does not appear to be original for a 93 year old coin that has most likely been out of circulation for over 50 years. I am good with your evaluation of the surfaces not being cleaned.

I see a lot of metal flow lines, a trait shared with its smaller Mercury dime cousins. This was a VERY late die state coin -- look at the metal flow on the rims around the reverse legend, for example. The strike is strong peripherally and weak centrally, a characteristic of late state die subsidence on Walkers (and Mercs.)

Finding fully struck AU-Uncirculated 1929-S Walkers is something that requires a lot of time and patience. Even when on fresh dies the luster tends to be frosty white like this coin. You see the same patterns in the D, S, and P mint coins from the 1940s, where a coin from one mint might have booming full - almost PL - luster, and the other has blast white or frosty white luster, despite having a similar MS grade.

I would agree with the grade as given by the TPG.
