It depends on whether you like the coins or not personally. The MD you are seeing just indicates a more tired die. I'm not sure if the mint would be able to have a mint set that old be returnable, others may correct me perhaps. Or you could sell it to someone who needs one, putting it on ebay, etc. It seems more likely that the mint would accept returns from more recent mint products, but I am not too familiar with those in and outs.

I think that mint mark took a hard hit, rather than errors, you're seeing sloppy manufacturing and handling

Yep, I realize this set can't be returned, but I've signed up to receive new mint sets automatically when they come out. Just curious if the prevailing opinion is a mint set with a mint error is worth more than one without. Sorry, I'm just too much of a rookie to know which. I see some error coins are worth something and other errors are worth less...pun intended:)

I agree nick with the poor handling, the coin has several bumps on both sides. What was curious to me is that the marks on the WE line up with the top of the P and the scrape or push looks the same on the E and P like a straight edge hit it but somehow missed the neck.

to the CCF Machine damage or doubling is not an error, it's damage. Some people might collect them, but it would be a very minor % of collectors.

The bridge of the nose being weak, tells me that the die had an issue with Feeder Finger Damage and was polished off of the die, weakening that area on the nose. Note the ribbon is also weaker, from the polishing. But I see no premium for this coin. Just an explanation as to what happened to the die. The MD is caused by the striking process by the machine. Note a doubled die. Just a normal die when the die was created. Machine Doubling doesn't create a doubled die, but the doubled die, creates a doubled die. But a doubled die, can also suffer during the striking by a faulty machine creating the Machine Doubling.

Yep just MD here, Sending a set this old back for a replacement is out of the question. Even with new modern sets - If you bought a 2022 that looked like this, you would have issues getting a replacement as normally the sets sell out. the best that would happen is you get your money back and you are left looking on the after market to replace it.
