While noodling through a heap of aluminium coins I came across this:

1958-Italian-2-Lire-Aluminium-Coin
1958-Italian-2-Lire-Aluminium-Coin

With a mintage of 125,000 Krause lists its value at $65 in VG while numista reckons it is "very rare"

Seems not all aluminium coins are worthless.

The Krause book is not good for pricing, they are always way off, grey sheet is the best but that cost big monthly money for a collector. this is a great website and shows a lot of fair normal pricing. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2424.html
Looks like its anywhere from .10 USD cents to 3 USD but thats in MS grade.

Umm, corey, if you actually look at the Numista page you linked to, you will see they list the 1958 as "very rare" and don't actually give a price.

Krause is sometimes inaccurate, in listing a rare coin as being cheap and common (for years, they listed the Australian 2000 Victoria Cross dollar at just $6, when it was selling for hundreds). But I've not known them to list a common coin as rare and valuable.

There's one on ebay right now, slabbed Unc, going for US$540. Can't see any in Completed listings there.

There's one on CGB.fr (French dealer website), raw AU, selling for 220 euros. One over on Barnebys via Catawiki was offered for 200 euros in 2019, but no bidders.

Nice find, it must have been low mintage to be like that. I have a 1 and 2 lire from the 1950s, not sure of date though. I think they were demonitised for being worthless, but appeared in some sets. San Marino minted them in their sets through to the 1990s.

After this era, the 5 Lire became their smallest coin.
