Looks like a partial grease-filled die. Not uncommon.

that does look 'sunk in' I would love to see the obverse of this coin to see if a Cud is there as Spence states. If no Cud then Grease would be the next correct answer as Frog and Jimmy said. Hard to troubleshoot an issue without all the clues.

Ok good to have this info. No Cud on the front so then yes, most likely this coin was struck with a little grease in the reverse die.
