Thanks! Although I'm a bit I didn't expect it to be worth thousands of pounds but I thought it's nice and well preserved and at least worth something . Looks like I have still lots to learn

Hi Archaz,
I don't think I really want to get rid of it. I've just started my collection. Just I wonder how much is it worth. I think I have to arrange a Krause book to have an indication, don't I?
Do you know how old is it?
I'm really new in this, so I need guidelines.
I know a guy, who has some coins like this and some hardly looking like a coin. So if you are interested, I can post you some photos.

Your 1940 rupee is silver (.500 fine) so it's not worthless, but it probably won't be worth too much above bullion value (currently $4.30 for this coin). Your second coin is, as the file title implies, a silver coin of the Sultanate of Delhi. I believe it's a match for this one, a base-silver 6 gani of Shah Ghiyath al-Din Tughluq (ruled 1320-1325 AD).

Whups, hit the "submit reply" button too early. It's after midnight around here. For the third one, there's not too much detail there to work with. Islamic coins, and Indian ones in particular, aren't easy for me - I don't have much in the way of reference books. The fourth one appears to have a picture of a cow on it - that would make it from one of the Hindu states.Beyond that' I can't say.
